Memories on the auction block at Captain Sacto's estate sale - Sacramento Bee
I’m too young to remember Capt. Sacto, but I do vaguely remember Capt. Mitch who introduced cartoons on KTXL from 1968 to 1984. Googling Capt. Mitch, I came across this neat site called UHF Nocturne. It documents the mostly forgotten history of Late-Night TV in Northern California, including Tom LaBrie ‘s Night Comfort Theater. LaBrie was a waterbed salesman in the 1970s and 1980s, and he sponsored and “hosted” an all night movie program on KTXL. Basically, there were about six different bumpers of LeBrie sitting in an easy chair and saying “Relax and enjoy tonight’s feature.” UHF Nocturn’s description of LaBrie as “Ned Flanders on quaaludes” is perfectly apposite. The tone of his voice was like morphine, and it’s making me sleepy just thinking about it.UPDATE:
